Mr Trump unexpectedly beat Democrat Mrs Clinton in November’s election but he has been sceptical of claims that Moscow interfered to boost his chances of victory.
They assess that Russian President Vladimir Putin ordered his nation’s intelligence agencies to run interference in our recent election, denigrate Hillary Clinton, and ensure that Donald Trump would emerge victorious.
President-elect Donald Trump has questioned United States intelligence agencies’ allegations of so-called Russian hacking. The report also notes that the U.S. has determined Russian Federation “accessed elements of multiple state or local electoral boards”, though no vote-tallying processes were tampered with.
Since Election Day, the intelligence agencies said Russian Federation has launched an extensive “spear-fishing” campaign aimed at tricking people into revealing their email passwords, targeting US government employees and think tanks that specialize in national security, defense and foreign policy.
According to the report, Russian intelligence services conducted cyberattacks against targets associated with both the Democratic and Republican parties.
U.S. President-elect Donald Trump and most fellow Republicans in Congress have concluded that while Russian Federation may have hacked the November election, it had no influence on the outcome.
Commenting on the new sanctions and related to the so-called Russian hacking, the Russian president’s press secretary Dmitry Peskov said they are a display of unpredictability and aggression. Among them: what constitutes an act of war or aggression in cyberspace that would merit a military response, either a cyber counterattack or other action; who is accountable for this problem, and do they have sufficient power to deliver results; and does Congress need to change how its committees are organized to help find solutions?
“There was no tampering whatsoever with voting machines“, he added.
“The outcome of these disclosures was hugely beneficial to the president-elect and damaging to the Clinton campaign, just as the Russians intended”, Schiff said. “The Republican National Committee had strong defence!” What can they tell us about his attitude towards U.S. intelligence agencies? President Barack Obama struck back at Moscow in late December with a sweeping set of sanctions targeting Russia’s leading spy agencies – the GRU and FSB – that the USA said were involved.
Meanwhile, Vice President Joe Biden has told Mr Trump to “grow up” as he criticised his “absolutely mindless” attacks on intelligence agencies.
Hours earlier, Trump had expressed his displeasure with an NBC News report published on Thursday night, which buttressed the claims made in an earlier article published by The Washington Post, that revealed that top-level Russian officials celebrated Trump’s win.
